Arlene L. Larson

Arlene Larson, 86, of Holmen, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse.

Arlene was born March 27, 1928 in Soldiers Grove to Arthur and Hazel Mickelson. She graduated from Logan High School in 1945. She earned an Associates’ Degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, IA in 1947. After moving to Madison, she met Robert W. Mueller at a skating party, and they were married in 1949. To this marriage, two sons were born. During this time, Arlene was a homemaker and dedicated her time to serving the needs in her community, living out the call in her Patriarchal blessing to “offer herself to the ways of God.” She enjoyed playing card games, skiing, reading, and volunteering. After the children left home, Arlene earned her Bachelors’ Degree from UW-LaCrosse and taught early childhood classes in reading in the LaCrosse area. Following retirement, she spent her winters from 1983-2010 in South Texas, returning to LaCrosse four years ago. Throughout her life, Arlene was an active member of the Community of Christ and was ordained to the office of Priest in 2001.

Arlene was blessed with 3 wonderful marriages. After the death of her first husband, she married Richard Cook of Pendleton, IN in1992. In 2004, Arlene married Bob Larson of Mora, MN.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Bob Larson, of the home, and sons Mike and wife Sue Mueller of Dumas, TX and Ron Mueller and friend Kathy Hinkle of LaCrosse, a sister -in-law, Alice Mueller of Rhinelander, 3 granddaughters, and 3 great-granddaughters. She is also survived by 9 step-children and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by a niece, a nephew, and cousins.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert Mueller and Richard Cook, brother-in-law Richard Mueller, and a step-son.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 and will include a 12:30PM visitation and 1:00PM memorial service held at Coulee Region Cremation Group Chapel, officiated by Elder Don Salyards. The chapel is located at 133 Mason St. in Onalaska. A private internment will precede at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Coulee Region Cremation Group and Funeral Home of Onalaska is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to a favorite charity or to a literacy program in your local area.
