Bernice A. Bishton, 89, of Onalaska and formerly of Lake Geneva, passed away Monday, November 3, 2014, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born on October 2, 1925, to Broney and Agnes Szablewski in Milwaukee. She met the love of her life, James Louis Bishton while he was stationed at Great Lakes NTS, and married him on November 9, 1946, nearly 68 years ago.

She enjoyed fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers, and listening to Frank Sinatra. She’ll be fondly remembered for her quick wit, her cooking and her creative works of art.
She is survived by her daugther, Marianne (Dennis) Stanke; daugther-in-law, Mona Bishton; grandchildren, Sam (Mary), Ted, Amanda (Jaime), Dan, Mike, Jenny (Tom); 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome (Joanne) Szablewski; and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband (October 29, 2013); her son, Tim; and her parents.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Springbrook Assisted Living Center and the staff at Gundersen Health System for their love and care.

Services will be held for immediate family at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Springbrook Assisted Living Center in her memory.
