Obituary

Boyd N. Lee

March 23, 2017 | 3 comments

Boyd Norris Lee, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Springbrook Assisted Living Facility in Onalaska, Wis. He was born on the farm in Holmen June 8, 1924, to the late Aurelia (Bratberg) and Bernt N. Lee. Boyd married Bernice Mae Gollnick on May 10, 1951, and celebrated 64 years together.

Boyd grew up in Holmen and graduated from Holmen High School in 1942. In his early years, he enjoyed gathering with friends at the Concordia and Avalon dance halls where he met Bernice.

Boyd lived his entire life earning a living on the family farm and had a deep connection to the land. He always spent part of the day out on the landscape that had been a part of his life since his earliest memories. He talked many times about the horses that preceded the tractors to complete the field work. Perhaps the hardest thing about old age was the loss of his ability to work. Boyd had a clever sense of humor and was always ready to pull a good practical joke.

Boyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, card playing, Packer and Brewer games and time with family. He was a founding member of the Holmen Rod and Gun Club and a steering committee member for the 1962 Holmen area centennial celebration.

He is survived by his children: Barry (Nancy) Lee, Lorie (Norman) Bednarek, Keith (Sue) Lee, Adrian (Julie) Lee; grandchildren: Bryan, Maura, Tyler, Ciara and Isaac Lee; Andy, Brent and Chelsa Bednarek (Luke Smith); Adrian Sullivan; and great grandchildren: John and Luna Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; sisters, Ethelyn Price and Beulah Yaney; and brother, Aldred.

The family thanks the Gundersen Health Hospice and Springbrook Assisted Living Facility for their services, kindness and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, Wis. (see www.couleecremation.com).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gundersen Health Hospice or St. Claire Health Mission.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was a great man and a super nice neighbor. He is in a better place along with Bernice whom he loved dearly. Prayers to you and your families.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of Boyd. I remember as a kid spending time at Art & Elsie Gollnick’s farm and Boyd and his family would be there, too. We had some great times and great memories.

    Condolences to the whole family
