Charles T. “Chuck” Hanson

Charles T. “Chuck” Hanson, 91, of Onalaska, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born September 13, 1924 to Olaf and Mabel (Olson) Hanson.

As a teenager, he spent one year working in the CCC camp. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy from October 1942 until November 1945, mostly as a Gunnery Instructor.

He married Delores Berzinski on September 22, 1944 in Oakland, California, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2014.

During his lifetime, he worked as a farmer, carpenter, factory worker and then seventeen years at the La Crosse County Highway Department.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Delores; children, Duane (Nancy) Hanson of Onalaska, Dean (Judy) Hanson of Mindoro, Curt Hanson of Onalaska, Debra Hanson of Onalaska; grandchildren, Todd (Suzanne) Hanson of Rochester, MN, Stacey (Scott) Davis of Rochester, Amy (Matt) McNally of La Crescent, MN, Nicole (Travis) Gruenwald of Brice Prairie, Troy Hanson of Mindoro, Cody Hanson of Onalaska; great-grandchildren, Carly, Samantha, Morgan, Sienna, Caleb, Alexis, Kamryn,, Kalie, Jasmine, Dominic, Bailee, Kacen, Kyle, and April; sister, Violet Peterson of Onalaska; brother, Wallace (Rosalie) Hanson of La Crosse; sister-in-law, Sandra Hanson; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ralph (Olga) Bautch; 1 infant daughter, Victoria; brothers, Wilfred (Frances) Hanson, Darwin (Jackie) Hanson and Orris Hanson.

Chuck was a Union member and member of the American Legion Post 507 of Mindoro and served one term as Commander. Chuck enjoyed yearly trips to Las Vegas for many years and also trips to Laughlin, Nevada. He enjoyed dancing and drives in the country and playing cards. You rarely were around Chuck that he wasn’t whistling or humming. For many years, he enjoyed coffee with friends at Coney Island.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., Onalaska. Msgr. Steven Kachel will celebrate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of mass at the church. Interment will be held at the Onalaska City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mindoro American Legion Post 507 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Coulee Region Cremation Group is in care of arrangements.
