Floyd Allen Nelson, 79, of Holmen, WI, passed away on Saturday, June, 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born on December 13, 1934 to Ernest and Susan (Peaslee) Nelson.

Floyd enlisted in the US Navy and honorably served our country for 20 years. Floyd dedicated his life to his family as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.

He married Rosemary (Clarkin) Nelson on his son’s farm August 9, 2009. He enjoyed hunting, Canadian fishing trips with his sons, the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed long walks with his dog “Harley” (aka: Dufus). He loved a good book, and was always doing crossword puzzles. He was a simple man who put his family first.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; children, Maggie Nelson, Raymond (Jeannie) Nelson, Dan (Theresa) Nelson, Doris (Tim) Coyle, Bobbi Jo (Todd) Himes, Jamie (Julie) Nelson, David Sprague, Patrick Sprague, Sherri Nelson; sister, Doris Johnson; brother, Robert Nelson; and many other relatives and friends.

He was a wonderful grandfather who always made time for his grandkids, Jennifer (Brad) Hanson, Lacey (Josh) Mathison, Britney (Matt) Pietrek, Brock Coyle, Jasmine Nelson, Jayda Nelson, Jacob Johnson, Dan Himes, Haleigh Himes, Kelsey Nelson, Rayond Nelson Jr., and Kassi Fenn (Nelson).

He was an even better great-grandfather to the “Dirty 7” – his great-grandkids, Tristen and Dawson Hanson, Ryder and Gunnar Mathison, Lileigh, Kacee and Memphis Pietrek.

Floyd was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Nelson; sister, Jeanette Duckett; parents, Susan and Ernest.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the dedicated Oncology nurses and doctors at Gundersen Health System who treated our father like their own. Your kindness and patience is greatly appreciated.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 5:30 pm at the Coulee Region Cremation Group and Funeral Home, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI. The Rev. John Parr will celebrate.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Friday, June 27 at 11:00 am at the Green Mound Cemetery in Holmen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network in his name.
