April 19, 2016 | 1 comment

Joyce Rachel Ruth Haldorson, 84, of La Crosse passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center.

She was born January 15, 1932, to Oscar and Kathryn (Bee Bee) Amborn. On May 10, 1947 she married Frank R. Haldorson, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1999.

During her earlier years, Joyce was a homemaker, and later on she worked at Garment Factory, Metallics, and Hillview. Even after retiring, Joyce continued to assist Hillview in the form of a volunteer. Joyce was an active volunteer with the Olivet Lutheran Church as well. When she wasn’t working or volunteering, she was with her family. Some of the best memories her family has are the long car rides with no particular destination in mind, rummaging for a great deal, trips to get a twist ice cream cone, watching game shows, and baking dozens upon dozens of Christmas cookies and giving them to other people and places. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild meant the world to her.

Joyce is survived by her children Clifford (Deborah) Haldorson, Gloria (John) Mischke, Virgil (Edna) Haldorson, Cindy (John) Steele, Delores (Dale) Johnson, Raymond Haldorson, Theresa Haldorson, and Sherry (Eric) Anderson; her grandchildren Christopher (Angelique) Haldorson, Paul Haldorson, David John Mischke, Angie Bryant, Josh Haldorson, Katey (Eric) Nietz, Sarah (Aaron) Pronschinske, Jordan Haldorson, Kassi Haldorson (Nick), Joe Haldorson, McKayla Haldorson, Tasha (Marvin) Rice, Jamie Steele (Amie), Dana (Don) Antal, Samuel DeVries, Scott DeVries (Alexia), and Ross Anderson; her great grandchildren Olivia Haldorson, Ethan Haldorson, Brandon Knutson, Ian Haldorson, Jeremiah Haldorson, Zoey Haldorson, Brooke Nietz, Peyton Nietz, Shelbie Pronschinske, Eli C., Ashlynn Francis, Austin Steele, Shaunee Rice, M.J. Rice (Courtney), Mike Rice, Jetadiea Steele, Aiden Steele, Autumn Johnson, and Summer Antal; her great-great-grandchildren Avayah Rice and one due in August; her special friends Pat Sullivan, Theresa Cross (Kyle), the Middlebrook family, Rick Steele, her dog Star, and many other loved ones.

In addition to her husband, Joyce was preceded in her death by her parents; sisters Gerri Mitchell and Sandy Bjorkmam; grandson Eric Haldorson; great-grandson Holden Pronschinske; special friend Shirley Mroch; and many other loved ones.

Family would like to thank Hillview for the care they provided to Joyce. The family would also like to thank Gundersen for the excellent end of life care they provided Joyce and for the comfort and support they provided the family.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 at the American Legion Post 336, 731 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska. A prayer will be said at 1 p.m. by Pastor Dave from the Olivet Lutheran Church. Per Joyce’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations are to be given in memory of her to Olivet Lutheran Church’s Children’s Bible Study, Hillview Auxiliary, and the Children’s Miracle Network. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

You have my sincere sympathies. I worked alongside Joyce with the Hillview Auxiliary and it was such a pleasure to know her. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help others. She will be missed greatly!
