Obituary

Kerry S. Everts

January 8, 2021 | 7 comments

Kerry S. Everts, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2021 at his home in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born in Hortonville, Wisconsin on December 13, 1955 to Shubert ”Bud” and Marilyn (Schwebs) Everts. He was baptized, educated and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville.

In 1974 he graduated from Hortonville High School where he had been active in athletics, band and served as a class officer. He went on to study at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse (1974-78) and made LaCrosse his permanent home. He was employed at Wis-Pak, Inc. for more than 20 years, where his schedule enabled him to fit in a lot of late-afternoon golf. In 2019 he achieved a hole-in-one on a par 4, 250-yard hole (an “albatross”- a  rare accomplishment). If he wasn’t out golfing you could find him at Sam’s bar, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, or at home snuggling with “the cat he never wanted” Odesza.

But Kerry’s real focus, pride, and energy in life was for his children, Colton and Hallie, which has proved to be a fruitful investment.

Kerry is survived by his children, Colton and Hallie; siblings Mark (Sandy) Everts, Becky (Bruce) Meyer, Kyle and Cory (Amanda) Everts; nieces and nephews Kendra, Carly, Jaxon and Ezekiel Everts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Marilyn Everts; and former father- and mother-in-law Willard and Dorothy Otto.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Sam’s Bar in La Crosse, Wisconsin on January 30th. The celebration will begin at 1pm and has no set end time.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.

Condolences

    To the entire Everts Family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Kerry. I still remember back to our high school days playing sports, drums, singing in swing choir and being in musicals and plays. Who could forget Hugo Peabody in “Bye Bye Birdie”? I also attended UW-LaCrosse with Kerry. Spent many a Friday or Saturday night enjoying a few beers with Kerry. Unfortunately after college, I only saw Kerry every five years or so at class reunions. He always had a smile and we shared lots of good memories. My sympathy to you all. Rest assured we will all see Kerry again in heaven. I apologize I won’t be able to make the gathering in LaCrosse as my son is getting married that day.

Rest in peace, my friend. We were classmates and teammates in high school, roommates in college. I witnessed so many of your successes, especially in sports. But when we got together at class reunions, the successes you talked about were your kids. They must be something very special.
Deepest condolences to the family for their loss.

Kerry was in my confirmation class at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School. We were confirmed in the faith on March 22, 1970. He was our star basketball player at Bethlehem grade school. We were classmates also at Hortonville High School where he excelled in sports, too. God be with his family and friends. “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life…” John 3:36a
