Bruce A. McCain, 54 of Holmen, WI, formerly Chester, South Carolina passed away peacefully after a life-long battle with Cystic Fibrosis with family by his side.  Bruce defied the odds, surpassing the average CF lifespan by many years. He was born November 12, 1962 to Roger and Jane McCain and attended gradeschool in the Whitehall, WI area. After receiving his degree in Biology at UWL, he went back to school to become a Respitory Therapist. Bruce’s calling led him to Carolina’s Health Care System where he met a great network of extended family. He was also a part of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church congreation who loved him dearly. Aside from taking joy in his work, Bruce loved to hunt, fish, be in the great outdoors, and cheer on his Packers.
Bruce is survived by his parents Roger and Jane McCain of Holmen, WI, his daughter Kaitlin McCain of Chester, South Carolina, his sister Linda Reedy of Onalaska, WI. Nieces, Bridget Reedy, Jennifer (Sam) Reedy/Taylor, and Kelsey Reedy, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family would like to thank Gundersen Hospice Care for their great attention and care. A private service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I knew Bruce as a student when I worked as Coordinator of Handicapped Student Services at UW-La Crosse. I met with him individually a number of times to assist with class registration and scheduling so as to accommodate his health needs. He taught me about cystic fibrosis and how it impacted his daily life. His explanations were matter-of-fact and not sympathy seeking. Bruce struck me as an intelligent, self-initiating, mature and respectful young man. During my 5 years (1981-86) at the university, I worked with several hundred students. Bruce was one who stands out in my memory. I offer my condolences to all of the McCain family. May your precious memories of Bruce offer comfort and consolation. Sincerely, Linda Kerrigan, La Crescent, MN
