Christine Gladys (Fortney) Turben
Christine Gladys (Fortney) Turben, 87, of LaCrosse/Onalaska, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 5, 1930 to Andrew and Gladys (McCormick) Fortney of Folsom/Kickapoo Valley.
She graduated from Readstown High School and was married to Donald Turben and later divorced. She started her career at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove and the Boscobel Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She continued her career in LaCrosse at the Hillview Nursing Home and retired from the LaCrosse Visiting Nurses Association.
Christine is survived by all eight children; Debi Turben, Pam Turben, Sara Motwani, Cindy (Tyner) Turben, Donald Turben, Wanda Turben, John Turben, and Signe (Jim) Hurlbert; 9 grandchildren, Cinda (Motwani) Gatica & Kristina Motwani, Jason Tyner & Todd Tyner, William & Hunter & Olivia Turben, and Karlie & Cody Hurlbert; and 8 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Helen Christianson, Myra Swanson, Cleone Fortney and Alene Johnson, and one brother Gordon Fortney.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16th at Coulee Region Crematorium Group, 133 Mason Street, in Onalaska with Pastor Andrew Fortuine officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A light luncheon will be held for family and friends immediately after the service.
She will be forever remembered for her compassionate and caring heart.
I am so sorry to hear of Christine’s passing. She was so wonderful to me when I was young. She treated me like one of her own. I’ve lost touch with your family over the years but the pain of hearing this brought back a rush of memories. May she rest in peace.
