Clayton Arvid Moe

February 6, 2018 | 8 comments

Clayton Arvid Moe, 76, of Onalaska, formerly of Holmen, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Clayton was born Feb. 10, 1941, to Clarence and Eleanor (Casberg) Moe in La Crosse. He grew up in Holmen, graduating in 1959 from Holmen High School. He was drafted by the United States Army into D Company, 864th Engineering Battalion and served in Texas and Vietnam from 1963-65. He was united in marriage to Joanne Timm on May 20, 1967, and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Clayton was first employed by his brother Art’s construction company and later as a carpenter by many local union construction companies in La Crosse. He was most recently with Market & Johnson until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Local Carpenter’s 1143 Union for 50 years.

Clayton enjoyed auctions, casino trips, playing cards, country music events, his granddog Bailey, and especially woodworking. He was a very talented carpenter, building three homes of his own. He was involved with his daughter Mary’s kitchen remodel and his daughter Teri’s new home being built this past fall.

Above all, Clayton’s greatest joy was spending time with his family; he always put them first. He adored his three granddaughters and made many special memories together with them.

Clayton is survived by his wife Joanne; his daughters: Theresa “Teri” (Brian) Sanders of Holmen and Mary (Matt) Bakken of Highlands Ranch, CO; his three special granddaughters: Alaina, Jade, and Korinne Bakken of Highlands Ranch, CO; brothers Burton Moe of Kirkland, WA and Hjal Jonsen of Palm Springs, CA; sisters Gloria Cassel of Onalaska, Joyce Urban of Rockland, and Mollie (Doug) Haskell of La Crosse; sisters-in-law Vernetta Moe, Barb Moe, Mary (Jim) Larson; and many special nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arthur (Leatrice), Homer and Aldin Moe; sister-in-law Jan Moe; brothers-in-law Donald Cassel, Verlan Urban, and John Timm; and in-laws Rex and Muriel Timm.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8 from 4-7 p.m. at the Coulee Region Cremation Group & Funeral Home, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, and one hour prior to the church service on Friday. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris St., Holmen. Pastor Allison Cobb will officiate. Military honors will be held immediately following the church service. A private interment will be held at the Farmington Cemetery in Mindoro at a later date. Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.couleecremation.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gundersen Health System and Gundersen Hospice in La Crosse for all the loving care that Clayton received.

Clayton was a loving husband, wonderful father, and grandfather, who will be missed dearly.
