Dale Douglas Schickowski

Dale Douglas Schickowski, 77, died on Friday, February 16, 2018 at home with family surrounding him. He was born on January 30, 1941 in Waukesha, WI to Ulrich Carl and Evaline Mary (Ebbott) Schickowski. He graduated from Waukesha High. He joined the Air Force and spent time in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he became a police officer while working on his bachelor’s degree at Milton College. After that he went on to get his master’s degree at University of WI Whitewater. He then became a teacher at WWTC and taught police science. When he retired, he was the associated Dean of Public Safety at WWTC. He also worked as a game warden for Great Lake Co. and La Crosse Co. He married the love of his life, Elaine Sallmen on July 26, 1990 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He enjoyed his camper at Champions Riverside Resort. He was a member of the Holmen American Legion Post 284. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends. He was a foster parent for 15 year for La Crosse County.

He is survived by wife, Elaine; and children, Jeanette Thach of La Crosse, Annette (Steve) Kujak of Brownsville, MN, Rob (Kim) Christen of Holmen, Ron Christen of La Crosse, Ashley Schickowski of St. Paul, MN, Christina Schickowski and Octiva Schickowski of Onalaska; 11 grandchildren; his 2 dogs, Doc and Gracie; 5 brothers, Jack (Mary Ellen), Allen, and Denny (Linda) from Waukesha, Leroy (Sandy) from Wisconsin Rapids, and Tom (Sue) of Belton MO; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Rick, Greg, Loren, Jerry, Don, Jim; 3 sisters, Evaline (Bunny), Nelvia, and Joanne; Mother and Father-in-law, Karl and Jeanette Sallmen; Brother-in-law, Arthur Sallmen.

Thanks to Onalaska Mayo Dialysis unit and special thanks to Dr. Iyer. Thanks to Gundersen Hospice for your tender care during his last few weeks.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM at the Coulee Region Cremation Group in the Prairie Room, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI 54650, with Pastor Andy LaFebre officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
