Donald E. Stensven

Donald E. Stensven, 73, of West Salem, died Friday, March 30th, 2018. Born November 21st, 1944 in Galesville to Orville and Dorothy (Kroener) Stensven. He was raised in Ettrick.

Donnie was a veteran of 23 years of the Army Reserve. He had the honor of serving as commander of the Melrose Legion. He worked at Melrose Mindoro school district as a Bus Mechanic for 35 years. After retiring from the district, he worked as a fire inspector for Per Mar Security services of La Crosse.

Donnie thoroughly enjoyed music. He played guitar, ukulele and loved to sing. He especially loved country music and sang in several bands over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; her children, Heather (Mike) Lyman, Kyle (Gillian) Twite, all of La Crosse; grandchildren, Eve, Lily, and Maxwell (Max- his racing buddy); sister, Nancy (Harold) Kennedy of Ettrick; brother, Mike (Sandy) of Black River Falls; brother- in-law, Burton Wheeler of Evansville, WI; children, Sharla, Sherilyn, Steven, Shaylea; nieces and nephews and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Wheeler.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 Leonard St., West Salem with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interments with military honors will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery.

    I worked with Donnie for 10 years he was as loyal as could be to his employer and to his country. We road together to Army Reserve meetings and had a few laughs on the way home etc.
