Obituary

Glorine A. Morse

July 6, 2017

Glorine (Gorny) Morse died on July 2, 2017, in her home. Glorine was the heart of our family and
will be deeply missed.
She was born to Blanche (Allen) Hougen and George Hougen on August 30, 1930. She was a 1948
graduate of old Central High School in La Crosse. On September 17, 1949, she married Wallace
Morse. They raised a family while living in La Crescent, MN, then spent their retirement years in
La Crosse.
Glorine was witty and intellectually curious. She loved to read and solve word puzzles. She
previously wrote humorous and human-interest articles for The La Crosse Tribune and other
publications. She was also a poet, and she often gifted family members with limericks and other
poems.
Glorine’s physical challenges were no match for her sheer determination. While she was still able,
she loved to travel and go out with friends to dinner and parties. She always enjoyed playing cards
with friends. She particularly looked forward to her daily walks (scooter rides) with her dog so
she could chat with her neighbors.
Glorine was known as “Grandma Gorny” to many of her younger friends. She enjoyed her
Facebook connections, seeing pictures and videos of her great-grandchildren, and hearing about
the world travels of friends and family. She loved her view of the river from her sunroom,
watching eagles, and feeding song birds. Glorine was a supporter of organizations working to
ensure human rights, protect animals, and secure social justice. She loved us all unconditionally
and was always there to provide support.
Glorine is survived by her three children Michael Morse (Denise Boyer) of Eugene, OR, Debra
Morse (Don Barth) of La Crosse, and John Morse (Joe Hamilton) of Minneapolis, MN, as well as her
granddaughters Rebecca Barth (Dylan Flunker) and Ellen Barth (Gernot Schulz), and great-
grandchildren Norah and Asher Flunker. She is also survived by her brother Gary (Carlene)
Hougen of Batvia Il. She is further survived by nieces and nephews Sandra (Don) Mattie, Carol
Rank, Tom (Meredith) Hougen, Dan (Kris) Hougen, and their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, and a brother, Alton Hougen.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials are requested to The Salvation Army,
Coulee Region Humane Society, or the La Crosse Public Library.
Our dearest Glorine passed away,
And we’re left in bewildered dismay,
But we smile as we toast
The one we loved most
With a glass of the best chardonnay.

Condolences
