Obituary

Jacquelyn Barbara Brick

August 22, 2010

Onalaska/Sonora, Calif.- Jacquelyn Barbara (Underwood) Brick, 84 passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2010 after a long illness.

Born in Oregon on Nov. 24, 1925, she moved at a young age to the San Francisco Bay area. There she met the love of her life, Rodney Lee Brick. After graduating from San Mateo High School, they were married and honeymooned in Yosemite Valley. They were married for 53 years and had five children. “We could have not asked for better parents.” Yosemite remains a favorite family destination.

Known as Jackie, she loved to be with family and friends. She was a very kind, gentle and loving person. Her refrigerator photo display always had room for just one more family picture. Holiday visits were cherished and other visits were encouraged. While living in the bay area, weekends and summers were spent in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The camping turned into finding a cabin at Bumblebee, Calif., which was their second home. Pinecrest Lake was the family summer headquarters and Dodge Ridge Ski Resort was the family winter headquarters. Mom skied with family and friends well into her 70’s. After raising five children, Mom went to college and became a nurse working for Eden Hospital in the bay area and in Sonora prior to her retirement. Not easy and quite an accomplishment.

Sonora became the logical place to look for a retirement home. In retirement, Mom took up quilting and joined several guilds. Mom was a master quilter. Machine quilting and quilt pictorials were her passion. Her award-winning quilts are enjoyed by all. Her quilts will endure as a magical memory for her loving family.

Mom also enjoyed going to the gym and was part of Val’s gals doing aerobics for many years. Mom enjoyed the outdoors whether gardening, walking or playing a round of golf. The birds in her neighborhood never had to look far for food or water.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Rod. She is survived by her younger brother, Lowell “Woody” Underwood, (Claire), Vassalboro, Maine. Children: Nancy Allen, (fiance, Adrian Ross-Brown) Fittleworth, England; Ralph Brick, Cold Springs, Calif; Tom Brick, (Kay) Cold Springs; Dr. Marianne Brick, (Dave Bozsik) Orangevale, Calif.; and Megan Swift, (David) Onalaska. Grandchildren: Robert, Jennifer, Joe, Hayley, Ryan, Genna, Andrew, Katie and Emily. Great-grandchildren: Alexander, Hugo, Emily and Ella.

Mom was quite remarkable in dealing with her illness. She would often say, “Lord, give me strength.” It was with a great deal of dignity and courage that she showed us all the way to conduct ourselves. Now it is our turn to ask for that same strength to deal with her loss. We’ll miss you Mom.

Thanks to the staff at Eagle Crest in Onalaska and Gundersen Lutheran Hospice.

No services are to be held. Her remains will be taken to California to be with her husband Rod, where a celebration of her life will take place. Coulee Region Cremation Group at www.couleecremation.com is assisting the family.

Condolences
