Jim Akright, 83, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully April 6, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.  He was surrounded by several friends and his brother by his side.

Jim graduated from Logan High School in 1951.  He also was a veteran in the US Navy and served from 1952 to 1956.  For most of his life he made his living as a photographer doing many weddings and high school students.

He enjoyed planting flowers and also growing tomatoes.  He became quite good at it, especially flowers.

Jim is survived by his brother, Phil Akright of La Crosse; sister, Pat Limberg of Mesa, AZ; plus many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his partner of many years, Elaine Gabriel.

The family would like to thank the Cardio-Pulmonary staff on 6 West for their very kind and excellent care he received in his last days.  A special thanks to physician assistant Tricia Solderg for her care and concerns as well.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska.  Rev. Ben Terpstra will officiate.  Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 336 of Onalaska.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the service.  Memorials may be directed to Logan High School or the Humane Society.
