Holmen- Leslie “Les” V. Amundson, 84, of Holmen, died peacefully at home with family by his side on Sept. 17, 2010.

 

He was born in Holmen on Aug. 29, 1926 to Hulda (Peterson) and Clarence Amundson. He graduated from Holmen High School in 1944. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He married Vina Arlene Stone on April 3, 1948. Leslie worked for many years at Metallics, and Northern Engraving. During his retirement years he worked at Holmen Hardware Hank. He was a long time member of the Holmen Lutheran Church, the Holmen American Legion, and the Holmen Historical Society. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years. Leslie enjoyed building model airplanes, watching the Brewers and Packers.

 

He is survived by his wife Arlene; daughter, Diana Hauser; son, Terry (Jean) Amundson; 10 grandchildren: Rachel Houser, Brent Ustby, Chelsea Ustby, Ty Hauser, Jenna Hauser, Adam Amundson, Chris Amundson, Jennifer Taylor, Jenee White, Shane Taylor; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria Breese; sister-in-law, Francis Stone; brother-in-law, Clayton Stone; nephews, Gordy (Carol) Knudson and Al (Elaine) Knudson; aunt, Elva Schneider; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gladys (Gordon) Knudson.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris St., Holmen, Wis. Pastors Matthew Toso and Dan Henderson will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the Church. Military Honors will be provided by the Holmen American Legion Post 284. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holmen Lutheran Church, Holmen American Legion, or the Holmen Historical Society. The family would like to thank the care providers of Gundersen Lutheran Hospice.
