Richard “Dick” Stauffer

Richard “Dick” Stauffer, 82, of La Crosse died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Mayo Health System in La Crosse. He was born on January 21, 1936 in La Crosse to Fred and Lila Stauffer. He married Sandra Johnson on December 8, 1956 at Onalaska Lutheran Church.

Dick loved being on the river and was known by all the locals as Captain Dick of the Island Girl. In 1993, Dick and Sandra moved to Naples, FL where he became captain of an excursion boat in Fort Myer. After he retired in 2012, they moved back to La Crosse to be closer to family.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Susan (Duke) Temp, Robert (Charlotte) Stauffer, Linda (Brian) Fluekiger, and foster daughter, Resa Silha; grandchildren, Ian (Devon) Stauffer, Jessica (Bryant) Davidson, and Lauren Stauffer; and great grandchildren, Lilah and Emerson Stauffer and Elizabeth Davidson; and special cat, Kitty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and his son, Kent in 1970. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the 7thfloor medical staff at Mayo Health System. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11 am at Coulee Region Cremation Group, in the Prairie Room, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI 54650, with visitation beginning at 10 am until the time of service. Pastor Scott Skogen will be officiating the service.
