Robert “Bob” Frederick Maringer

Robert “Bob” Frederick Maringer, 93, of La Crosse, died peacefully on September 13, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.  He was born on Jully 11, 1924 to Michael and Isable Maringer.  He married Phyllis Pervisky in Sioux Falls, SD.  They had four children, Thomas (Linda), Michael (Cathy), Diane (Greg) Knudson, Patricia (Ron) Fitzpatrick.  They later divorced.  Bob remarried Geraldine Lane and family, Ron, Steve (Belinda Jo), Cynthia, and Jon.

Bob was born and raised on the north side of La Crosse where he graduated from Logan High School and was very proud to be a north sider.  He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and proudly served in Burma/China, supporting missions flying over “the Hump”.  Bob received many medals for his service.  In 1952 Bob joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War.  As a WWII veteran, Bob and his grandson Chase proudly flew in the 2015 Freedom Honor Flight.

After his service, Bob settled in La Crosse.  He was active in his church Trinity Lutheran Church and was a truck driver, dispatcher and then the terminal manager for Briggs Transportation.

Bob enjoyed playing softball for city teams as a pitcher and won the 1957 Claire Raith Award for player of the year.

After years of playing softball Bob officiated baseball and football games for the area high school teams. Bob was instrumental in bringing the Stars of Tomorrow tournament to La Crosse and he continued to support the program even after he and Geraldine moved to Seattle, WA where they enjoyed the Pacific Northwest for many years.

Bob was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan.

Bob is survived by his children; grandchildren, Chase, Austin, Dylan, Michelle, Brooke, Kim, Dan, Kevin, Katie, Kimberli, Andrea; 13 great grand children; brother, Richard (Donna) and long time “adopted” daughter, Carla Zell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Phyllis and Geraldine; sons, Ron Lane, Tom Maringer; and sister, JoAnn Lund/Rattle.

Per Bob’s request no services will be held.

Memorials in Bob’s name may be directed to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
