Barbara A. (Brockenhauer) Hovell

Barbara A. (Bockenhauer) Hovell, age 84, of Galesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Onalaska Care Center surrounded by her children. She was born on December 31, 1931 in Winona, one of eight children born to Earl and Viola (Storm) Bockenhauer of German Coulee, Galesville. Barb was a 1949 graduate of Galesville High School. She married Clyde Hovell July 29, 1950.

Barb raised four children on the Caledonia Prairie. She enjoyed reading, sewing, snowmobiling, boating, horseback riding, knitting, and mopedding. She worked at Outers, Sullivan’s, and Skogens.

She is survived by daughters, Lu (John) Ebersold and Tari Wood; son, Stanley (Lori) Hovell; brothers, Earl (Fran) Bockenhauer, Jr, William (Judy) Bockenhauer and Doug (Solveig) Bockenhauer; sisters, Laurie Hovell and Sandra (Tony) Raymond; brother-in-law, Kent Drugan; sisters-in-law, Darlene Dettinger, Nancy Hovell and Patricia (Donald) Kamrowski; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; son, Jon; brother, Glen; sister, Donna Drugan; brothers-in-law, Robert Hovell, Kenneth Hovell, LaVerne Dettinger and Russell Gilbertson; and sister-in-law, Lorna Gilbertson.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Trempealeau followed by a service at 11:00 officiated by Pastor Dana Jackson. Lunch will be served at noon. Burial will follow after the luncheon for those who wish to attend at Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville. Per tradition, a wine vigil will be held that night at Tari Wood’s house.

The family would like to thank the Onalaska Care Center and their amazing staff for taking such great care of Barb and her family during her stay, all the doctors and staff of Gundersen Health Systems for providing excellent care over the last few years and Joe at Coulee Region Cremation Group.

    . I knew Barbara , and her sister Laurena was my best friend in high school. I regret the lateness of this condolence, but recentlly heard of your loss. My sincere regards to your family.
