April 30, 2016 | 6 comments

Arthur Joseph Grana, D.O., F.A.C.O.S., 80, died April 30th in his home with his family and pets present.  Arthur lived a remarkable life which included much learning and many adventures.

He was graduated from Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA) and Chicago Osteopathic School of Medicine.  He completed his surgical residency in Detroit, MI at Botsford-Zeiger Osteopathic Hospital.  Arthur practiced surgery in Colorado Springs, Co for three decades.  Outside of work he enjoyed many activities.  He was an avid hunter in his younger years, and enjoyed sailing, dancing, scuba diving and, after retirement, built with his own two hands his beloved cabin in the Colorado Rockies.  He and the love of his life, his wife, Anita, moved to LaCrosse, WI in 2008.  He loved his pets and his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife Anita Sue Grana (nee Moen); his daughters Sheryl Judith Grana (Jon Stratman), Michelle Rose Grana; sister Arthurline “Sis” Sahlburg (Jack), brother Joseph C. Grana III (Linda); his special “adopted” daughter Kimberly Ellen Hearn; and his grandsons Tyler Dale Stratman and Brant Arthur Stratman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph C. Grana and Arthurline Ruth Grana (nee Lutter).

Arthur devoured and embraced life, lived with passion by a set of ethical  principles and considerations and believed in the courage to practice one’s convictions.  He is dearly loved, already missed and left a mark on the world through his caring, kind and responsible ways.  He always enjoyed a good conversation, a good cup of coffee, a pet on his lap and the joy he found with his friends and family.

The family would like to thank Abigail for her help with his loving care to the end as well as the Gunderson Hospice program.  Love, joy, and peace to a great husband, father, brother, son, and friend.

A remembrance service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Noon at the Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI.  Dr. Joseph Grana will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service.
