Fredric (Frederick) Olson

February 7, 2017 | 4 comments

Fredric (Frederick) Olson was born on Jan. 16, 1946 in Mondovi, Wis., to Florence and Orben Olson. The family returned to Westby and that is where Fred grew up and went to school. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 until 1969 and was stationed in England, where he met his wife, Pamela.

Fred loved to hunt, fish and restore old tractors, as well as competing in professional tractor pulling contest, where he had many first place trophies. He worked at Trane Company for 42 years. He loved to spend time with his sons and his grandchildren. He was ill for many years with Parkinson’s disease, but never complained and bore his illness bravely.

Fred left this world Monday, Feb. 6, 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; sons, Andrew (Sherry), Caleb (Tiffany), Martin (Tricia);  grandchildren, Cassandra, Alexis, Elizabeth, Isaac, Austin and Jacob; step grandchildren, Isabella and Devon; sister, Janice (Gilbert) Berg; brother, Olryn Olson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother-in-law, Ronald Christopherson; several cousins; and many aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank his friend Harlan Hjerloid for all he did for Fred.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska. Pastor Ted Dewald will officiate. Visitations will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

We are sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. We enjoyed having him and his family as neighbors in Onalaska in the late seventies. They have been friends ever since. One thing that I will always remember about Fred is the brick driveway that he built for his house. He had an old trailer and would bring home loads of bricks from a pile where the City of LaCrosse had piled them from old streets. That was no small project and he did a great job.
