Gerald Charles Vieth

Gerald Charles Vieth, age 85, of Sparta, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully October 28th at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 22, 1929 to Henry and Sophie Vieth in Coles Valley, Wisconsin. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1947.

His interests included watching Wisconsin sports, gardening, bird watching, cloud watching and golf. He enjoyed horseshoes and was extremely proud of placing first place in the 1984 Oktoberfest Horseshoe Tournament. He was also a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jolene. Children Linda (Larry) Thurston, Allan (Barb) Vieth, Michael (Donna) Vieth, Judith (Don) Neal, Terry Hansen, Lori (Dick) Jones, Jill (Steve) Schroeder. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one brother, Henry (Elaine) Vieth of Fairbury, Nebraska and brother-in-law Art Manson of Sparta and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters..

The family expresses a special gratitude for the wonderful care received by Mayo Clinic Health Care physicians, nurses, and Hospice staff, and Sparta Area Cancer Support.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick’s church, Sparta, Wisconsin. Visitation preceding service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. At the church on Monday. Coulee Region Cremation Group and Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Sparta Area Cancer Support and Hospice.
