Obituary

Karlene Kay (Davis) Walters

March 8, 2017

Karlene Kay (Davis) Walters passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at home surrounded by family and friends.  She was born January 17, 1946 to Charlotte Bernice (Neary) and Charles Davis.

Karlene grew up in La Crosse, attended Logan High School, and married the love of her life, Duane R. Walters, on September 12, 1964.  Together they raised four children and had 52 years of taking care of each other.

Karlene, creative at heart, enjoyed crafts, sewing and quilting.  She lived for spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids picking up trinkets and treasures at the weekly rummage sale trips.  She looked forward to the competitive board and card games around the family table.  She had two expansive collections, fiction novels and country chickens.  She will be missed dearly by family and friends alike.

Karlene is survived by her loving husband, Duane; daughters, Kim (Thomas) Hicks, Chris (John) Winscher, Pam Walters, Cindy (Jim) Toedter; grandchildren, Jacob Hicks, Sarah (Hugo) Hicks, Josh (Kari) Kramer, Isaiah (Ashlee) Kramer, Nathan and Hallie Toedter;  and eight great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by brother, Howard (Janet) Davis; sisters, Linda (Rod) Gillmeister, Vicki (Jim) Reynolds and Lorina (Steve) Cook.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald “Butch” and sister, Donna.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska.  Rev Ted Dewald will officiate.  Visitation will be held from Noon until the service.

The family would like to express heart-felt thanks and gratitude to the many family and friends and the staff at Gundersen Hospice for the extraordinary care.
