Obituary

Thomas Warden Zunker

June 28, 2015

The curtain has finally closed on Thomas Warden Zunker’s final act.

Born in La Crosse to LeRoy and Fern Zunker on November 16 1932, Thomas passed peacefully on June 23 2015. A member of the Immanuel Lutheran congregation all of his life, Tom was a 1950 graduate of Logan High School. Working a plethora of jobs after graduation, he chose to enter the army in the winter of 1953, to serve his country in the Korean War. Stationed in Japan as part of the Far Eastern Signal Service Command, he was employed as a High Speed Radio Operator for 2 years. Receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1955, Tom soon settled on the Isle of Manhattan, in the City of New York. Accomplishing all he set out to, Tom’s career in the entertainment industry lasted 31 fruitful years. Proud of all he achieved, Tom’s likeness even graced the cover of Bill Haley and the Comet’s album “Rockin ‘Round the World”.

Returning to La Crosse in 1987 to care for his aging mother, Tom loved his work at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, retiring in 1998. His heart having never truly left New York, the city he loved, Tom will be remembered by many friends and family.

He is survived by his twin nieces, Susan Mae Sommer and Sandra Kaye Rogge; nephew, Randy Thomas Blank; and great-nephew, Jonathan Eberhart Sommer.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
