Emma Agnes Earley
CANON CITY, CO/LA CROSSE, WI – Emma (Agnes) Earley, 102, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at her home. She was born January 29, 1911 to Gus & Emma (McGary) Merris in Canon City, Colorado. She married Mahlon (Perry) Earley on October 17, 1932 in Raton, NM. They ranched in various locations until Perry’s death in 1979. They lived in Penrose, CO for many years where Agnes was very active in the Firemans Auxilary, Penrose Boots & Saddle Club, PTA, Grange, Colorado Cowbells Association and the Appleday Committee. In 1990 Agnes moved to La Crosse to be close to her family. She spent many happy hours watching her great-grandchildren at swim, track and ski meets, football, baseball and basketall games and go-cart and motor cross racing. Agnes made a special group of friends in the Coulee Coffee Group and the Natural Arts Garden Club where she was very active. Her smile, jokes and sense of humor will be missed by her family and many friends. To many she has been known as Grandma. She has touched more hearts than one can count.
Agnes is survived by her children Malon (Mike/Carol) Earley of Coon Valley and Patty (Joe Sr.) Bond of La Crosse; eleven grandchildren Kathy (Loren) Anderson, Mike L. Earley, Don (Dorie) Earley, Cindy Bond, Joe Jr. (Tammy) Bond, Brad (Linda) Bond, Michael Hougom, Cindy (Steve) Lisney, Dan (Patti) Hougom, Steve Hougom and Sherry Hougom; sixteen great-grandchildren, Alex Anderson, Zach (Kat) Anderson, Max Earley, Amanda (Matt) Miller, Lacey, Joe III and Lucas Bond, Tonya (Ryan) Kneesel, Rob and Steve Henderson, Ashley and Josh Lisney, Tim, Niki, Dawson and Sawyer Hougom, four great-great grandchildren, Cole and Emma Miller, Rose Anderson and Riley Kneesel; one sister Wanda Green of San Diego, CA; many nieces and nephews; her special friends Shirley Anderson, Dellie Pohl, Cheryl Dion, Dr. Sheila Momont and Renee.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Perry; two brothers and sister-in-laws Jack (Ethel) Merris and Geroge (Bertha) Merris and great granddaughter Sara Rose Hougom.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm Saturday at the Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI, with a memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to La Crosse Citizen Advocacy or Gundersen Lutheran Hospice.
