Russell Edward Hicke, 69, of Melrose, passed away June 11, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 2, 1944 in La Crosse to Argyle and Mary Ann Hicke (Lusk).

He married Vicki Butterfield April 2, 1944 in La Crosse. Russ graduated from Central High School. He worked for Fowler and Hammer for 37 years and retired. He was a member of the local 599 for 43 years.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughter, Paula (Bill) Shephard of Onalaska; sons, Doug Hicke of La Crosse, Craig (Sheila) Hicke of Watertown; step-sons, Chad and Matt Feyen of La Crosse; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; best buddy, Timber and new found friend, Teaser; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank the Gundersen Health System Doctors, Nurses and Hospice for their wonderful care of Russ.

A celebration of life will be held June 15, 2013 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Black Oak, N9404 Hwy V., Holmen. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
