Norman H. Paulus
Norman H Paulus age 87, of LaCrosse, formerly Manitowoc, passed away peacefully in his home on November 5.
He was born in Manitowoc Wisconsin to Norman and Clara (Springer) Paulus. He lived there until the Great Depression led his father to move the family to Wabeno Wi for work. Although the years were difficult, there were many fond memories of living in the north words. In 1942 he and his family moved back to lakeshore area where he graduated from two rivers high school in 1944. His year book picture noted the phrase, ” Normie was two tons of fun!” Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on a LST in the pacific theater of World War II. After honorable discharge he attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis Mn and eventually retired from Hamilton Industries with over 30 years of service.
In 1956 he married Anita Sheahan at St Patricks Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Wisconsin. Shortly there after he was inducted as an honorary irishman by the Sheahan clan. He and Anita were married for 57 years and raised 4 children together.
He is survived by Anita, his children Lynn Paulus, New Boston N.H., Jeff (Kim) Paulus, Burlington WI, Mary Ellen (Peter) McCartney, Daniel (Annette) Paulus all of La Crosse. He had nine grandchildren, Taylor and Caitlin Antisdel; Anna (Curtis) Horning, Caroline and Will Paulus; Quinn and Lane McCartney; and Rainer and Kelsey Paulus. He recently celebrated his first great grandchild , Kael Randle. He is also survived by his brother, Don Paulus Manitowoc, WI and a loyal childhood friend Jack Fritsch He was proceeded in death by his parents and two sisters Ruby Steger and Dorothy Brachman.
He was a loving husband and father with a quick wit and a kind heart. We will miss him dearly. We would like to thank his physicians, Drs. Fadi Ghandour and Jon Zlabek whose competent and compassionate care extended Normans years, the Gundersen Health renal dialysis unit for the many years of exceptional care provided to him, the incredible staff at The Villas Assisted Living for their support and the Gundersen Health hospice program for helping him home.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Mary Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. The Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family. Memorials are preferred to the Gundersen Health Renal Dialysis Unit or the Manitowoc Roncalli High School.
