Gary F. Hewitt, 68, of Ettrick and formerly of Viroqua, died peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born on December 3, 1943 to Walter and Mildred Hewitt. Gary married Marge Melby on May 28, 1961. They were happily married for 50 years.

 

Gary is survived by his wife, Marge; children, Cindy Brenengen (Dale) of Galesville, Phil (Diane) Hewitt of Viroqua, Tracy (Donnie) Bishop of Ettrick; 6 grandchildren, Heather (Chad) Backler, Heidi Brenengen, Holly Brenengen (Kyle Willinger), Jason Dowiasch, Cole Hewitt, Kylie Hewitt; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dorn (Kim), Bob (Janice), Dick (Clarice); sisters, Marilyn, Joyce, Shirley, Aleta; sister-in-law, Janet Williams; 2 step-grandchildren, Danielle (Cory) Komperud, Brittany (Kevin) Bishop; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Walter Hewitt; mother, Mildred (Don) Clark; and grandson, Cody Hewitt.

 

Gary was an avid hunter and carpenter. He enjoyed sports, spending time with his dog, Bailey, and was always there to lend a helping hand. Gary always enjoyed and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at Hilltop Cemetery in Ontario, Wisconsin. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
