Thomas Charles Smith, 82, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on November 29, 2022 at his home with his family.

Mr. Smith was born November 8, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to Margaret and James Smith.

He is survived by his loving children, Thomas (Elaine), Margaret (Marianne), and Katherine (Matt), his many grandchildren, Joseph, Steven (Christy), Robert, Kristine, Natalie, and Clark, great-granddaughter Freya, his brothers James (Gayle), Robert (Janis), Rick (Val), and Raymond, and many nieces and nephews.  After a 50 year wait, Tom now joins his loving wife, Margaret, in heaven.

Tom attended De La Salle High School in Chicago, Illinois and was a proud Mighty Meteor.  He was a Corporal in the Marine Corps and enjoyed a long career as a traffic manager and international freight forwarder.

An avid sports fan, Tom enjoyed running, playing volleyball, watching college football and basketball, but his true love was watching his grandchildren play sports.  Tom enjoyed his many trips with his family and visiting his children and grandchildren in Wisconsin, Arizona, and California. He was known for his sharp wit, strong sense of humor and piercing blue eyes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Blanche, and mother, Margaret Helen Smith.

A funeral mass will be held at Tom’s long-time parish, St. Cajetan in Chicago, on Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 am with a 10:00 am visitation in the church vestibule.
