Obituary

Craig James Brown

March 4, 2024 | 1 comment

Craig James Brown, 63, of La Crosse passed away Friday March 1, 2024, with his sons by his side at Bluffview Memory Care. He was born on Jan. 24 1961, to Charles and Mary “Delores” (Moore) Brown.

He grew up in Lansing Iowa, graduating from Kee High School in 1979 and married his high-school sweetheart Joyce Hitchins (later divorced) to which they had two twin boys Joshua and Justin Brown.

He perfected his craft as a meat cutter for 40 years with a majority of that time spent with Quillin’s and Festival Foods. After his retirement from Festival, he discovered a new passion in life of driving for Uber/Door Dash/Lyft. It was the perfect job for him going into retirement, being the sociable guy he was. We had never seen him happier than he was those last few years (Except for when he was cutting up deer with his brother Chuck, nephew Matt and family, and friends). If you got the chance to talk with him, oh the stories he would tell of his adventures.

Craig was the kind of man who wanted to be there for everyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved playing golf and hanging out with his 2 boys and grandson, who he thought the world of. He loved spending time with family at gatherings. He loved getting together with his buddies, shooting pool, playing cards, and having a few drinks talking about old times.

Craig is survived by his sons: Josh and Justin Brown; grandson: Christian Brown; brothers and sisters: Chuck(Connie) Brown, Dana (Dan) Malin, Curt Brown, Darcy (Brook) Baumann and Danette (Steve) Melsness; and many nieces, newphews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Chris Brown, who he missed dearly.

Matthew 5:4 – Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

A small service will be held at the gravesite in Gates of Heaven Cemetery Thursday, March 7th @ 1pm. Celebration of life will follow afterward at Onalaska American Legion from 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Condolences
