Obituary
Signe Ann Hurlbert
Signe Ann Hurlbert, 64, of Onalaska, WI, passed away on July 25, 2024 at home surrounded by family following an aggressive battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Signe was born on February 7, 1960 to Christine Turben. She spent her early childhood growing up in Soldier’s Grove, WI, the youngest of eight children. As a teenager, she moved to La Crosse, WI with her family and graduated from Logan High School in 1978. She married her high school sweetheart, James Hurlbert, on July 12, 1980. Together they had two children, Karlie and Cody. Signe worked at Dairyland Power for 39 years before retiring early due to her illness.
Signe enjoyed spending time with her family most. She was always quite proud of advancing her career at Dairyland Power, where she worked her way up from the mailroom to IT supervisor. In her final years, Signe enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, long drives in the country, and attending to her cat, Sophie.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Karlie (Peter Mueller) Hurlbert, and Cody (Bridget Gorchels) Hurlbert; and granddaughters, Adalee and Mayla Mueller. She is also survived by her siblings, Pam Turben, Debi Turben, Sara Motwani, Cindy Turben, Donald Turben, Wanda Turben, and John Turben; sister-in-law Jackie (Richard) Swanson; along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Christine (Fortney) Turben; her father and mother-in-law Roy and Millie Hurlbert; and her brother-in-law John Hurlbert.
Jim and Karlie would like to thank everyone who supported us during Signe’s final years here. So many family and friends helped us through the more trying days. We would also like to thank all of the staff from Gundersen Hospice and Quality Comfort Care for supporting her during her final weeks. Allowing mom to live and stay at home throughout this illness was the only act of dignity that we could find, particularly when all other normalcies of life were gone.
A Celebration of Life/Visitation will be held at the Onalaska Legion on August 31, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Please come join us for one final happy hour with Sig!
We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers and with all of the family.
Take care, I enjoyed working with Sig for most of her time at Dairyland.
I also lost my mother to Alzheimer’s.

My heartfelt sympathy to you all. Sig was always so helpful to me at work. I am so saddened by her passing. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sig was my first professional co-worker and one of the best people I’ve ever worked with. She was always the voice of reason in our conversations whether I wanted to hear it or not. My deepest sympathies to Sig’s family and friends.
I am so sorry for your loss. Signe was a great coworker at Dairyland.
I enjoyed working with her.
Jim my friend, Karlie and Cody. There are no words to describe how I’m sure you’re all feeling right now or anything I can say to make it better. Sig was such a dear person and loving friend. She was smart, funny and loved her family to pieces. She was so proud to be a grandma and sharing pictures over lunch was a given. Jim, as her husband and friend you honored her by steadfastly being there through the worst. You never forgot your vows and those of us who loved her, you and your family will be forever grateful. We all go back so far it’s hard to believe she’s gone. But rest assured she is not forgotten.
Sig was a high school friend. Though we didn’t stay in contact, I do remember her and the fun we had.
My condolences to the Hurlburt Family and friends. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sig was the best! Always wanted to be her, so sharp. Always loved running in to you two…and Karlie. Hugs!
My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family, I worked many years at Dairyland Power with Sig.
