William (Bill) J. Otto

William (Bill) J. Otto, 73, of Onalaska, Wisconsin peacefully passed away, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at his home.

He was born June 30, 1951 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Fred and Mary (Dayton) Otto. He graduated from La Crescent High School in 1970. He later received his millwright apprenticeship from Western Wisconsin Technical College.

Bill married Kim Panke in 1973. He worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for 17 years. From there he worked for Laidlaw Busing for several years, and also worked for Stock Lumber until retirement.

Bill had a tremendous love for trains since he was a child. He had a large train layout in his basement where he shared that love with his kids and grandkids. He also loved fishing, hunting, and the Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Otto, three children, Heather (Jay) Otto, Jared Otto, and Sara Otto, six grandchildren, Kelsie Onsrud, Preston (Claire) Otto, Parker (Ella) Otto, Connor Onsrud, Addie Otto, and MaKayla Carlson. He is also survived by one great granddaughter, Paisley Otto, sister, Mary Jane Otto, and brother, Ed (Bobbie) Otto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary (Shirley), grandparents, Frank and Olga Otto and grandparents James and Mary Dayton.

The family wishes to thank St. Croix Hospice and the staff at Gundersen Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street Onalaska, Wisconsin with Reverend Scott Skogen Officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

We love you and you will be in our hearts forever.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family at this time.

    I have so many wonderful memories of time with Bill back in the 70s and 80s, maybe even into the 90s!!! I send my deepest condolences to all Bill left behind with many, many happy memories. May his memory be a blessing. Danny.
