John “D” Bradley, 86, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 14, 2025, at his home with family at his side.

John was born Jan. 5, 1939, to Frank C. and Ruth D.(Meyer) Bradley at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, WI. He was baptized Feb. 16, 1939, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed May 25, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. John graduated from Bangor Union High School May 24, 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. John then attended Waterloo Barber College, graduating in July 1960. He did his apprenticeship at Schubert’s Barber Shop in La Crosse from July 1960 to July 1963. He went on to start his own barbershop, John’s Barber Shop, in La Crosse.

John married Nancy Pfaff Oct. 15, 1960, at Christ Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, WI. They eventually made their home in La Crosse where they both worked in the barber and cosmetology business throughout their careers. During that time, they welcomed three children, Michael, Trece and Heidi.

John retired from cutting hair after 40 years in 2000. He was a dedicated member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Church Council, the Building and Grounds Committee, the Church Choir and also served as an Usher. Together, John and Nancy enjoyed traveling. They visited Hawaii, Germany and Ireland as well as winter stays in Florida with friends. John was blessed with countless memories spent with family, deer hunting and special times with neighbors and friends.

Despite dealing with congestive heart failure, John was determined to live life to the fullest. Through the years, John enjoyed boating, waterskiing, hunting, gardening,  helping Mike on his farm and especially cutting wood at the shack. These activities were enjoyed between building houses and moving. John loved telling jokes, sharing stories and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was always willing to help anyone needing a helping hand.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy; son Michael (Tammy) Bradley, Fairchild, and daughters Trece Mannstedt, Holmen, and Heidi (Troy) Nedegaard, La Crosse; grandchildren Nicole (Mike) Dube, Austin Mannstedt, Cody (Kerstin) Nedegaard, Sydney (Antonio) Pintaro, Spencer Mannstedt, Caleb (Brianna) Nedegaard, Jacob (Kayla) Bradley and Haley Nedegaard; and great-grandchildren Braxton, Letti, Lillian, James, Olive and Waylon.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn and brother Donald.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Joel Burnett, Therese W.(R.N.), Dan Hensgen, the Interventional Radiology staff and the St.Croix Hospice staff for their compassion and kindness.

Funeral services for John will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave. S., La Crosse, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at 12 p.m. Lunch will follow at the church. A private burial will be at a later date at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery in Burr Oak.

Memorials are preferred and may be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Services are arranged by Coulee Region Cremation Group of Onalaska.

I have known John for many years, both as my barber and also my brother in Christ as we were members and servants for many years at First Lutheran.

Rest in peace brother and look forward to seeing you in heaven.

    Memories:
Via cousin Nancy’s extended family I met John, maybe at a Reichgelt picnic, celebration, or…. Ever since then I remeber and still think of John as a kind, wholesome, engaging soul.
    God bless and God’s speed
