James Allen Vieth
James Allen Vieth, age 83. of Holmen, formerly of Cataract,Wisconsin passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was born on October 5, 1941 to La Vern and Beatrice (Herrman) Vieth. He married Carol B. Hyatt on August 19, 2006 at their home in Cataract, Wisconsin.
Jim was born just outside of Sparta, Wisconsin on their farm October 5, 1941, and raised in Tomah, Wisconsin until he graduated from Tomah High School in 1960. He then joined the Army National Guard of Wisconsin in 1961 and was activated in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, discharged in 1966. Jim as an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Many trips included Canada, and out West. And most of all he loved serving as a Milwaukee Police Officer and retired after 29 years. This is when he moved to Sparta where he met the love of his life, Carol Hyatt. They married in 2006 and lived in the Cataract area until they downsized in 2021 and moved to his current home in Holmen, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughters, Whitney Pierce and Waynette (Dave) Castro; his grandchildren, Matthew Castro and Sarah Sutton (Tanner); his great-grandchild, Oliver Castro; his brother, Lee Vieth (Deb); his nieces and nephews, Cory Vieth, Tatum (Justin) Schroeder and Kayle Vieth. Carol’s family: Kim (Terry) Engelson, Paul (Kim) Kelsey, Melissa (Rod) Kogutkiewicz and Ann (Marc) Donahue; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Beatrice Vieth and his brother Hollis Vieth.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mayo Hospice, Coulee Region Cremation Group, Onalaska and Pastor Roberta Nowicki.
Private family graveside service with military honors will be on June 4, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta, Wisconsin. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Leon Community Center at 2:30 pm.
