Obituary

John L. Stevens

July 17, 2025 | 3 comments

John L. Stevens, 58, of La Crosse, passed away Monday July 7, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.  He was born August 31, 1966 in Iowa City, IA, to Eugene Wade and Myrna (Hunt) Stevens, who were preceded in death.

He is survived by his sister, Tina (Fredy) Molina; nieces, Anneka “Rag” (Randy) Yeager, Carretha “Carre” “Turtle” (Darnell) Yeager; nephew, Tucker “Hawk” Yeager; great nephews, Jux Yeager, Leland Ritter, Neko Miller; great niece Aya Yeager; and many other relatives and friends.

John’s world revolved around his family and many friends near and far.  He loved collecting ducks, playing bingo, and going to the casino to gamble with his baby sister Tina, who he loved to the moon and back (cause she’s the baby).  He’s touched so many people’s lives, rather it was a through a hug, funny saying on his shirt, or anyway else he could.  He worked as a desk clerk (Assistant GM) in many hotels, most of the time with his good friend Ann.  He loved all get togethers both family and non, where he would help out in so many ways offering to get any items missed at the last minute.

He loved going on bus trips to the casino with all of his friends, always counting on some little gadget he had to share with.  Oh and don’t forget he loved spending time and picking on his special friend Matt.

John was full of life, a bit of a drama queen, as well as loving and caring.  He will be missed by so many people.

A celebration of life will be held on July 26, 2025 at the Onalaska American Legion Post 336 from 11am to 3pm.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Very sad to hear. Bingo on Tuesdays at the Legion will never be the same. He always made me smile and laugh when bingo came to a close and I was dog tired from working that shift. Fly high my friend. I am so happy you were a part of my life as little as it was. forever remembered!
