Jane Louise Klawitter

September 17, 2025 | 9 comments

Jane Louise Klawitter passed away on Saturday September 13, 2025, at Emplify Health in La Crosse.

She was born June 30, 1950, to Frank and Alice (Reichgelt) Kendhammer. She lived her entire childhood in La Crosse graduating from Aquinas High School in 1968. She was so happy to have come back in contact with several or her former classmates and friends and have a small reunion with them.

She married David Arthur Klawitter on July 17, 1971. They had two daughters Jennifer and Emily.

Jane was a wonderful mom but becoming a grandma was meant for her. She would have been a Great-Grandma in November and was looking forward to it.

Jane did so much in her life so to call her a “stay at home mom” doesn’t give it Justice.

She “catered” many sleepovers for her daughters and their friends for many years, and she was an excellent cook. She also had a knack for decorating and loved to make her house feel like a home for the family.

Then her grandkids came along, and life would never be the same. Jane was a fun and spunky Grandma. She always said she wanted to be a “cool” Grandma and that she was. Her grandkids took plenty pictures and videos of Grandma being “cool”. She always managed to make them laugh just by being herself.

Jane is survived by her husband Dave of 54 years, Daughters Jennifer (Rick) Kline and Emily (Ray) Grandt, Grandchildren Joely (Dartainion) Olson, Noah Kline, Ray Grandt IV and Emma Grandt. She is also survived by her spoiled rotten doggie Dansby. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Lawrence and brother Mike (Ellie) Kendhammer. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Alice Kendhammer, her mother and father in-law Art and Verna Klawitter, Her sister Barb Starsky and brother-in-law Jack Starsky, her brother-in-law Norm Lawrence. She will be very happy to see her best friend, Shirley Baker, in Heaven who passed away many years ago and left a whole in Jane’s heart forever. They are finally together again.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Emplify and Pallative Care for making the end more bearable for Jane and her Family.

If you knew Jane, you loved her, she was just that kind of person. We will all miss her so much and hope she is looking down on us with Pride.

Services will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, WI 54650. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family during this difficult time.

Jane was an amazing friend to my mom, I know she loved her so much along with your whole family. Love from our family to yours! I’m sure my mom (Shirley) and Jane and making everyone laugh up in heaven.

I am so sad. I met Jane at Lutheran Hospital way back in 1969 or so when she worked as a surgical tech. What a delightful person, always with a smile and funny comment. She fell in love with Dave and I made her wedding dress. Rest in love Jane.

Not sure if I can find the right words of comfort but I can certainly hold you all up with prayers. This girl, your wife, mom, grandma and soon to be great grandma and my friend. Just reminding you that she loved all of us beyond measure.

I am blessed to have had her in my life as she taught me how to embrace it in new adventures. So much spunk, love and fun.

When you are having a tough time please remember you will always be in the thoughts of all of us who loved her too!

I grew up with Janie. She was a very loved cousin, even when we lost connections as we had our own children. We slept at each others houses so many times. We went to our Aunt Grace and Uncle Lawrence’s working farm each summer to visit for a week. The farm had an outdoor toilet and Sears catalog pages for toilet paper. I know Janie is chuckling in heaven as I write this. Janie had the neatest play house in her back yard that she called the Koop, because it had been a chicken koop.
We had a wonderful childhood together. I am so sad we didn’t stay close. She was a fun and beautiful girl and woman.
Her family must be so proud of the person she was. I love you Janie.
