Obituary
Dennis Ralph Grubbs
Dennis Ralph Grubbs, age 81, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on February 27, 2026. He was born on May 8, 1944 in Winona, Minnesota to Ralph and Grace (Amundson) Grubbs. Though born in Minnesota, Dennis spent much of his childhood in Texas, where he developed a warm southern drawl that became a beloved part of his infectious personality.
Dennis proudly retired from the United States Army, after dedicating over 20 years of Active-Duty service, with multiple overseas tours, including Vietnam, where he served as an LPN Field Medic. After his military career, Dennis continued a life of service as a Security Officer at Mayo Health System, where he worked faithfully for 20 years.
On December 30, 1988, Dennis married the love of his life, Wanda (Ellefson) Grubbs. Wanda brought with her a large and loving family, and Dennis embraced them wholeheartedly. Together they cherished the joy, fullness, and connection that came with this big, blended family, eventually welcoming a daughter, Arianna (Grubbs) Cirincione, to complete the beautiful family they built.
Dennis lived a life filled with passions that reflected his easygoing, warm and spirited personality. He enjoyed reading, a good nap, camping, fishing, and road trips but especially enjoyed making and sharing a good meal with his family. A true conversationalist, he was known for telling stories from his life and military travels—many of which revolved around memorable meals, the people he met, and the experiences that shaped him. His laughter could fill a room with joy and often served as the best medicine even on the hardest of days. His humor, warmth, and engaging storytelling made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Dennis filled his later years listening to the laughs of his grandchildren and enjoying the peace and comfort of home with his wife.
Dennis is survived by his wife Wanda; his daughter Arianna and her husband Dominic, and their children Harrison and Gianna; and his son Christopher Willis, his wife Michelle, and their son Benjamin. He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Grace; his sisters Anita Jo and Sara; his brother Dickie; and his son Dale.
Services are postponed until arrangements are completed for interment with full military honors at a National Cemetery, in recognition of Dennis’s faithful service to his country. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the wonderful people who were part of Dennis’s life—those whose love, friendship, and kindness shaped him into the remarkable man he was. A special thank you is also extended to the men and women who continue to serve this great nation, that Dennis cherished so deeply.
Dennis, a remarkable husband, father, and friend, will be remembered for his easygoing friendly disposition, his wisdom, humor and whit, and the love he poured into every day of his life. He will be profoundly missed. “I love you more.”
