Obituary
Ronald G. Fiers
Ronald G. Fiers (87) passed away at his home on May 6, 2026 with a zest for life to the very end. He was born December 31, 1938 to Howard and Esther Fiers in Onalaska, WI. Ron graduated from Onalaska High School in 1956 and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church. Ron married Barbara Ferry in April of 1962 and had three children. Barbara passed away unexpectedly in February of 1992. Later Ron married Teri Kennedy in June of 1994, gaining 5 bonus children.
Ron, never one to be “sitting around”, was involved in planning and establishing St. Paul’s School, which all three of his children attended and where two of his great grandchildren attend today. He proudly served 13 years with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the National Guard. A machinist for most of his life first at Aircraft Parts, he completed his career at MTI as a production supervisor. In retirement Ron served on the Board of Directors at Gunslick Trap Club.
Ron loved any activity that took him outdoors. His favorites were fishing, hunting, gardening, trapshooting, walking, and Saturday afternoon rides. In his later years, Ron enjoyed traveling with Teri throughout the United States. Their 2005 trip to Alaska via the Alaskan Highway was a highlight of their travels. Their travel days concluded with a trip to Florida in January for a granddaughter’s wedding.
Ron is survived by his 3 children, Troy (Annie) Fiers, Jennifer (Larry) Schrader, and Diana Schomberg. Stepchildren: Chris Kennedy (Don Davis), Bob (Hollie) Kennedy, Michelle (Tim) Holzer, Cheri (Al) Kjos and Greg (Anita) Kennedy. Siblings: Charlotte Larsen, Ruth Pruitt and Larry (Donna) Fiers. 25 Grandchildren: Jamie, Ben, Jesse, Kimberlin, Collin, Claire, Kyle, Ava, Kyle, Madison, Morgan, Michael, Hayden, Tyler, Andrew, Marissa, Jeremy, Justin, Zak, Drew, Alysa, Mataya, Brianna, Nathan and Laylana with twin grandsons, Christopher and Brandon, predeceasing him. 18 Great Grandchildren Julian, Jemma, Huxley, Sutton, Benton, Liam, Elsie, Addilyn, Ava, Alora, Reylin, Graham, Will, Raven, Colter, Ethan, Everett and Elijah with one great grandson, Oakley, predeceasing him.
A special thanks to Ashley and Scott from the Emplify Hospice team for their compassionate care, not only to Ron but to his family also. The staff at the Emplify Heritage Unit gave exemplary care and attention to Ron during his last hospital stay.
Ron will always be remembered for his quick wit, and his sarcasm will long live in our hearts. As we face life’s bumps, we will remember Ron’s steady advice, “It is what it is”.
Services will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1201 Main St, Onalaska, WI on Thursday, May 14th at 12:30 p.m. There will be a visitation from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the service.
Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.

To my sweet brother-in-law, Ron. I will always have such memories of you in my heart. We had so much fun with you when you thought you could drink more beers and beat all your brother-in-laws. Well, I remember one wanting to go to the hospital saying he had food poisoning and all it was, was couldn’t handle beer. Well, he lost that one but he will always be a winner in my heart. Even tho I lost my sister too early, you always were my brother-in-law. Rest in peace Ron. Barb is waiting.
