Obituary
Jeanne Ann Bornitz
Jeanne Ann Bornitz, 72, of Holmen, passed away peacefully at her home, fulfilling one of her final wishes.
Jeanne was born on November 30, 1953, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to William M. and Janeane R. (Sutherland) Hill. Her parents later divorced. Then in her teenage years, she was blessed to gain a bonus father when her mother married Bruce D. Mahoney in 1968. Jeanne graduated from Logan High School in 1971 and went on to complete the WWTI Medical Records Technology program in 1975.
Jeanne met the love of her life, Neil, and the two were united in marriage on October 3, 1981, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in La Crosse. Together they built a life centered on love and family, and were blessed with two sons, Steve and Mark, who were truly her pride and joy.
Jeanne dedicated more than 20 years of her career to Gundersen Lutheran in the medical records department. Over the years, she also explored other work opportunities in medical records, tax preparation and call centers such as The Company Store before retiring from IC Systems.
Jeanne had a deep love for horses and was fortunate to have them as part of her life for many years. She’d spend many summers showing her horses or taking them on rides anywhere she could. She got her boys into horses from a young age and loved to travel around with them as they showed them all over the state. She was also especially proud of her 1969 Chevy Caprice, which started as her daily driver, and then became a show car that she enjoyed taking to all the area car shows. Jeanne loved scrapbooking and spent countless hours preserving treasured memories like weddings, events, and especially of her sons’ racing years at local tracks. She never wanted to miss a night watching them go in circles chasing the checkered flag. Her scrapbooks became a lasting tribute to the moments she held most dear.
She was also passionate about genealogy, devoting endless time to researching her family roots and preserving that history for future generations. Jeanne loved to socialize, whether at family gatherings, community events, or during a stop for morning coffee at the gas station. Above all, she loved talking about her children and grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to share stories about them with anyone willing to listen.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband, Neil Bornitz; her sons, Steve (Holly) Bornitz and Mark (Lindsey) Bornitz; and her beloved grandchildren, Kenzie, Colin, Elliot, Jamison, and Ivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Janeane, Bruce, and William; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends; and her beloved horses, Callie, Stormy, Lucky, and Christie.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served following the service.
Jeanne will be remembered for her warm and social spirit, her deep love for family, and the joy she found in preserving memories and connections. Her love and devotion to those closest to her will be cherished always.

Rest in Peace, Jeanne
So sorry to hear of Jeanne’s passing. I saw a post on FB that she had been taken to the hospital by ambulance.
This really took me by surprise.
May God’s blessings be with her as her new life in the eternal world. May God’s hands protect, guide you and comfort you in this difficult times.
Jeanne was truly one of the most genuine people I have ever known. She was driven and very smart. She took pride in her academic achievements ,and there were many. I don’t think I ever seen her in a bad mood, always smiling , always kind and had a great sense of humor. She used to come to my house in the mornings and we would walk to school together…we had some really great conversations…she was sweet and loving to everyone. One of a kind, I will miss her. Deepest sympathy to her family that she loved SO much.
