Maureen Alice (Lowry) Longcor, 85, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026.

She was living in West Salem, formerly of Onalaska. Born in West Allis, WI, she was the daughter of the late Frank Elmer Lowry and Alice Minnie (Loose) Lowry. Maureen was raised in La Crosse, Sparta, and New Ulm (MN).

She graduated from New Ulm High School, class of 1958. She learned to sew from her father who had a tailor shop near Fort McCoy. As a young mother, she put her skills to use sewing military sleeping bags at the La Crosse Garment Manufacturing Company in the 1960’s. She furthered her education at Western Technical College (formerly WWTI) and was employed by UW-La Crosse for 29 years.

After retirement, she grew into a new career as a realtor. Maureen enjoyed travel, with trips to New York City, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, California, and South Carolina. Her favorite destination was Zihuatanejo, Mexico, where she liked to explore beaches, eat local fare with friends and family, and go sportfishing.

Maureen enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren, and her cat Princess. She loved fishing, both small and big game. She had the best fish story — Catching a 513-pound Marlin in Hawaii in 1984. She inspired many with her determination and faith in possibility.

Maureen was preceded in passing by her daughter Cynthia Jo in 2018, and by siblings Carol Lowry (2014), Frank Lowry (2008), Joyce Henschel (2021), Jean Tolvstad (2012), and Gary Lowry (2014).

Maureen is survived by her children, Susan Wandling (Tim), Barbara Reynolds, Nancy Puent (Jerry), and Douglas Longcor, as well as 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Maureen’s life memorial will be held on Thursday, June 18th, 11am, at Presbyterian Church of West Salem.
