Obituary

Dennis Niccum

October 8, 2026 | 0 comments

Dennis Niccum, 72, of Holmen, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly and tragically on October 6th, 2026, as the result of a farming accident. His passing leaves behind a life defined by hard work, Christian faith, service, and an unwavering love for the land and the people around him. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon Ann Niccum.

Born October 4, 1954, in Iowa, he was the son of the late Verlie and Luella Keatts Niccum.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his 3 children: daughter, Hanna Niccum and husband Craig Nedrelo, daughter, Sara Christianson (Niccum) husband Marcus Christianson; grandchildren: Aalliya and Sophia Christianson; and his son, Daniel Niccum. He is also survived by his brothers, Duane Niccum, and Ken Niccum; and his sister, Sara Wagner.

For more than five decades, Dennis dedicated his life to agriculture. Farming was not simply his occupation – it was a way of life and something he truly loved. Throughout his lifetime, he raised beef cattle, goats, and pigs, crop farmed corn and soybeans all while working full-time and providing for his family. He eventually ended his professional career at Dairyland Power, but retirement never meant slowing down. He continued working and caring for his farm in Holmen. The farm remained a meaningful part of his life, a place where he could work with his hands, care for his land and animals, and share his love of agriculture with those around him.

Dennis believed deeply in the value of hard work and dedication, and he didn’t just teach those lessons to his family – he lived them every day. His family will remember him for his determination, his work ethic, and the example he set through a lifetime of showing up, working hard, and taking care of what mattered.

Dennis had a heart for people and a genuine gift for making others feel welcome. Anyone who stopped by the farm during the day could count on being offered a cup of coffee and a conversation. The farm door was always open, and he rarely met a person he couldn’t find something to talk about. His generosity, warmth, and willingness to give his time made the farm a gathering place for friends, neighbors, family, and anyone who happened to stop in.

His love of farming and his love for people came together in his yearly church mission trips to Laos. Through global mission work, he found another way to serve others and share the gifts and experiences that had shaped his life. His Christian faith was not something he simply professed, it was something he put into action through service to others.

Dennis was a lifelong Christian and loved the Lord deeply. He was an active part of the First Free Church community. In the early 2000s, he and his wife served together as pre-K teachers, pouring their time and care into the youngest members of the church. Later in life, his service continued through global mission work, allowing his faith and compassion to reach far beyond his own community.

His legacy will live on in the people he loved the family he raised, the farm he cared for, the lives he touched through his work and service, and the faith he shared so freely. He worked hard. He loved deeply. He served faithfully. And even though his life was taken unexpectedly and tragically, he left this world doing what he loved.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, October 15th, at First Free Church, in Onalaska.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the church.

A reception will follow at The Gathering Place, after the service, 133 Mason St. Onalaska.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Laos Foundation that support sustainable farming practices and fighting childhood malnutrition in Laos – https://www.ltcglobaldevelopmentfoundation.org/snacks-for-smiles
