James Peter “Jim” Jakowski August 26, 1937 – October 21, 2026.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jim passed away on October 21, 2026, surrounded by a family who loved and adored him.

Jim was born on August 26, 1937, in Menasha, Wisconsin, to Ed and Nel Jakowski. From an early age, he had a passion for motorcycles and fishing. On June 11, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mary (Patricia) Farley. Together, they raised three children and welcomed thirty-five foster children into their home.

Jim worked for Banta Printing for many years. After moving across the state to La Crosse, Wisconsin, he continued his career at Inland Printing.

Jim and Mary shared 64 years of marriage. He enjoyed woodworking, weaving, painting, attending auctions, keeping a beautifully groomed yard, and relaxing with puzzles. He also treasured family vacations, fishing, campfires, cruises, and the many memories made with those he loved.

Jim is survived by his three children, Christine (Lynn) Hammes, Cheryl Jakowski, and Peter (Patti) Jakowski; his grandchildren, Lindsay (Daniel) Bell, Brittany (Sam) Hermes, Anthony (Jackie) Vitanza, Ashley (Colin) Walsh, Nathan (Joe) Jakowski, and Alex (Ashley) McDonah; and his great-grandchildren, Fiona, Finn, Bowyn, Banks, Henry, and Theodore.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who cared for Jim at Hallowstone, where the staff welcomed his family as their own, as well as to the staff at Gundersen Hospital and Dr. Lee.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish in West Salem, followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. and lunch. After lunch, guests are welcome to join the family at the cemetery.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family with arrangements.

My deepest sympathy of your loss of Jim. I always enjoyed sharing singing with Jesus’ messages each month at Hallowstone as he was faithful to come and listen and participate as much as possible. I will missing seeing him but know he is resting peacefully in his eternal rest.
