Raymond Thomas Jensen, 78, of La Crosse died December 24, 2015 at Mayo Health System, La Crosse.

He was born January 7, 1937 to Albert and Beatrice (Foley) Jensen.

Ray graduated from Logan High School in 1954, served in the US. Navy as Sonarman from 1955 to 1958, attended and obtained an associate degree in Electronics Technology from Coleman Technical Institute in 1968. He continued his education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Stout State University – Menomonie in 1970.

Ray worked as a school bus driver, at Allis Chalmers and then at Dairyland Power, Genoa, for twenty years as an instrument technician until his retirement in 1993.

Over the years Ray loved spending time between a few resorts fishing “UP NORTH” on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage until he could no longer make the trip. He fished with his brothers in the early years and his neighbor in later years. Ray was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, Milwaukee Brewer fan and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed attending USS Keppler (DDE-765) reunions and kept contact with his some of his comrades to this day. Ray also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, woodworking and reading his Kindle. Ray obtained a recreational pilot’s license and often joked that he did so because he wasn’t very good at flying the model airplanes.

Ray never married. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert “Jim” Jensen (2005) and Gerald Jensen (2002). He was also preceded in death by his nephew Craig Jensen in 1994. Ray is survived by three nieces, Julie (Chaitanya Kuttanoor) Jensen of Madison, Jill (Knute) Brye of La Crosse and Dr. Jani (Tony) Jensen-Montabon of Rochester, MN, three great nephews and one great niece.

Ray is also survived by his life-long friend and neighbor, Marian Johnson and his neighbors/caregivers, Michael and Sara McCormick.

Thank you to the numerous health care workers that cared for Ray over the years. There are too many to name. Thank you to the staff at Eagle Crest (Onalaska) for caring for Ray this past year.

As requested by Ray, there will be no funeral service.

Condolences
