Aletha “Lea” Jones
Aletha “Lea” Jones, 71, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2016 in Hillview Care Center. She was born on April 24, 1944 to Henry and Juanita Smith. Even as the anemia from MDS slowed her down, Lea enjoyed keeping up with events and you could be assured that her radio dial was tuned into Wisconsin Public Radio or that she was catching up with Stokke Tower residents during Bingo or continental breakfast. Lea had a lifelong passion for the art of embroidery, sewing and quilting. Her strong Catholic belief was evident in Lea’s kind-heartedness to others. Lea is survived by her twin sister, Bernis Smith of Griffith, IN; her son, John (Kay) Jones of Onalaska, WI; and her grandchildren, Alana and Lawrence Jones of Onalaska, WI. Lea was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Henry Smith and her sister, Dorothy Miller. Special thanks to Greg, Kara and Barbara for their kind support through the years. Appreciation also goes to the caring staff at Mayo Healthcare System and to Hillview Care Center. Even with her modest means, Lea was a generous and giving person and would be pleased to have any memorials go toward Catholic Charities. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
