Helen M. Wegner

Helen M. Wegner neé Eden of Bangor died in peace in the hands of the Lord on February 16, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Helen came into this world on July 20, 1929 on the Eden Family Farm in Pine Creek Valley near La Crescent, Minnesota. One of her happiest memories was her experience as a flower girl at the first mass offered by Rev. Walter Hafner at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in La Crosse in 1937. During the war, she worked at Doerflinger’s Department Store in La Crosse selling candy and ice cream. As a result, she turned out to be so sweet that she later accepted a proposal of marriage from Francis Wegner in 1948. An active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor for many years, Helen went on with boundless energy and love to raise no less than five boys. Through her humility and quiet strength, Helen would reflect for her sons a model of faith during both happy and challenging times. Working briefly in the Coffee Cup Café in Bangor, she would go on to secure a certificate in book keeping at WWTC during the 1960’s before her employment as book keeper at Wegner Sales and Service. Helen’s longest period of work came through twenty-two years of employment as a certified nurse’s assistant at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem. The nature of her experiences working as a compassionate caregiver to the sick at Lakeview became a very important vocational calling in her life. Subsequently, Helen worked for a time at Woodmen’s Bakery followed by ten years of employment at Wehr’s Oasis as cook and waitress where she came befriend many people in the community. She retired at age 75 continuing her long-time memberships in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and the Altar Society at St. Mary’s Church, her parish home.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Francis, parents Theodore and Sophie Eden, sister Eleanor and brothers Henry, Ray and Ty. She is survived by sister Viola Harvey of Chelsea, Michigan and Bernard Eden of La Crescent, Minnesota, along with sons Gregory (Paula), Jeffrey (Ethel), Bruce (Helen), Glen (Rose), and Tim (Kerena) in addition to twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. May she rest in peace in the hands of God. Her grateful sons will not forget her legacy.

Funeral services to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 20th, with a funeral visitation from 8:30a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by mass with Rev. Douglas Robertson presiding. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in Bangor.

Dear family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. I know Helen is making her journey to be with our Lord, and will soon be with everyone that’s made that journey before her, and taking her seat at the poker table. :). Love to you all.

We will miss Helen’s very sweet way- in all she did. I know the saints and angels are rejoicing over her presence in heaven today- along with all the great many people who loved her and have gone on before her. Our prayers are with the
Wegner family today and this weekend.
