Always a sports fan, John followed the Packers and Brewers/Braves during his adult life.   As a young adult he participated in many LaCrosse league softball and basketball teams.

John graduated from LaCrosse Central High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy prior to attending Luther College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. He was a customer accounts manager for various companies in the Milwaukee area from 1957 to 1982.

He and Lois Tennison were married on March 18, 1956. While they resided in Milwaukee most of their married life, they were happy to return to LaCrosse in 1982 to transition to semi-retirement.

John belonged to the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Bigelow and Marion MacMillin Bigelow. John was the last survivor of the MacMillin-Cargill lineage.

Per his wishes, neither a service nor visitation will be held in his honor.
