Eugene “Sam” L. Heintz

Eugene “Sam” L. Heintz, 84, of Brownsville, MN, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2017.  He was born on September 1, 1933 to Louis and Mae (Wilhelm) Heintz.

He worked many years at La Crosse Cooler Company and then the Company Store where he retired.  Eugene’s passion was spending time with his horses, hobby farm, family, and friends.

He married Virginia Stadtler on September 26, 1959.  They were married 58 years.

Eugene is survived by his wife, 3 children, Tim (Natalie) Heintz, Cindy Gartner, John (Lori) Heintz; four grand children, Nicole, Trevor, Chet, and Cody; three great grand children, Ella, Owen, and Maci; a very good family friend, Ben (Dawn) Spagl; sister, Ruth Heintz; sisters in law, Delorse Heintz, Julie Merzenich; brother in law, Nick (Donna) Stadtler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grand daughter, Maria Gartner; brothers, Leland (Marge) Heintz, Glen Heintz; and sisters, Lillian (Ed) Lehmann, Eunice (Raymond) Butcher, Lois (Lester) Lemke, Shirley (Wallace) Runningen.

A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Brownsville Community Center.  A private family burial at the Brownsville Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Mayo Clinic Health System and Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice.

Memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Heath System Hospice Program in La Crosse or the Brownsville Veterans Cemetery.
