Obituary
Gloria Jean Breidel
Gloria Jean Breidel, 70, of Holmen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at her home in the country with her loved ones at her side. After a long battle with Cancer and Alzheimer’s she has finally found peace.
She was born in La Crosse on May 30, 1947 to William O. and Clarice (Lee) Peterson.
Gloria spent her childhood growing up on the family farm in Chaseburg, WI. Her family later moved to La Crosse, where she graduated from Central High School.
Gloria married Thomas Breidel in La Crosse and they would later divorce. They had two children William “Bill” Bredell of Onalaska and Nicole “Nikki” Lunde of Holmen.
Gloria started her working career at the Elite Candy Shop in La Crosse, which she had many fond memories of and spoke of until the end. Gloria then worked until her early retirement at Century Telephone Company where she was a telephone operator and later became a purchasing agent. Gloria enjoyed the demands of her job meeting people, talking and traveling to the company headquarters in Monroe Louisiana. After her retirement from the phone company, she began another journey studying therapeutic massage in California then opening her own business, The Power of Touch, in Holmen. She would later work part- time as a bookkeeper for her son’s business Advanced Plumbing Systems, Onalaska. She decided to take on one last job and worked part time in Food Services for the Holmen School District. Gloria’s joy was working with the kids and she always came home smiling. It was her illness that finally forced her to make the step to retirement.
Gloria’s heart and soul always belonged in the country. She spent the last 15 years living along the Black River near Stevenstown. She loved all things nature and was the happiest when she had her hands in the soil planting her flower beds and vegetable gardens. She so loved her surroundings that she had named most every animal and bird that frequented the property.
Gloria is survived by her son William Breidel, Onalaska; daughter Nicole (Mike Moen) and grandson Kyle Lunde, Holmen; brother Clinton (Barb) Peterson, Winter, WI; sister, Delores (Harold) Levendoski, Clear Lake, WI; her very best friend and soul mate Daniel Pretasky, Holmen, and his children Avrie (Jeff) Schott, Nicholas (Krissy) Pretasky, and Samantha (Jason) Forehand and all the lovely grandchildren.
