Sister Alice Rohn

Sister Alice Rohn, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 89, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Villa St. Joseph in La Crosse.

Sister Alice was born on Feb. 7, 1922, to Albert and Florence (Manning) Rohn in Arcadia. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1936 and made profession of vows in 1942.

She was a primary teacher for 37 years in Iowa, Wisconsin and El Salvador. Sister Alice was one of the three original missionaries who established Madre del Salvador School in Santa Ana, El Salvador, and from 1962 through 1981 she taught, trained teachers and served in pastoral ministry. Upon her return to the U.S. she ministered in Beaufort, S.C. From 1986 until 1999 she tutored and ministered at the Hispanic Center in Davenport, Iowa. From 1999-2002 she was at Immaculate Conception Parish in Eau Claire, Wis. In 2002 she made her home at the Villa.

Sister Alice is survived by her Franciscan community; by her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Aloysius Rohn; a sister-in law, Mrs. James Rohn; and nieces and nephews.

Her parents; her brothers, Michael, Cornelius, James and Joseph; and her sisters, Kathleen, Ellen, Elizabeth “Bette,” and Joanne preceded her in death.

Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. today, May 17, when her body will be brought to St. Rose Convent in La Crosse. A prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Mary of the Angels Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in La Crosse.
