Walter Johns Decker III

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Walter Johns Decker, 77, of La Crosse passed away, Friday, June 3, 2011 at home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of 49 years, sons Karl, Reid, Sam, daughters in law Brenda and Tiffany, granddaughter Casey, and grandsons, Jack and Blake. Sister and brother in law, Lila and Glenn Seager.
PhD Graduate of George Washington University 1965.
Retired from the U.S. Army in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Professor at University of Texas, Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas from 1976-1983.
Founding Member of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, and in 2001 was awarded the Career Achievement Award. He will be remembered for his professional achievements in the study of poison control and the use of activated charcoal. Years of service on the National Institute of Health (NIH) peer review committee.
Active member and faithful servant of the Episcopal Church.
Walt enjoyed singing, especially with the Octoberfest singers.
A public viewing will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sparta, Friday June 10, 2011, 4-5 pm, with Memorial service from 5-6 pm and reception to follow. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
He will be buried Monday June 13, 2011, 1 pm, at Spooner Veterans’ Memorial
